Rising Damp
Rising damp is commonly caused by moisture from the ground breaching the damp proof course (DPC). The reasons for this can be due to incorrect installation of the DPC, high ground levels or age of building and subsequent perished material. However it can also be due to debris trapping water against the building or by other structures adjoining the building as well.

Usually the treatment for rising damp will be a chemical DPC injection course, drilled and injected into the wall alongside any remedial cosmetic exterior/interior works.
Penetration Damp
Penetrating damp is usually caused where moisture enters the building through deteriorated materials or defects. These can be exterior issues I.E leaking/blocked gutters, damaged roof tiles, leaking downpipes, porous or spalled bricks and defective cement work or flashing. It can also be an interior issue such as defective window/door seals or layers of impermeable paint/plaster blocking a walls ability to breathe.

Penetrating damp can eventually damage a buildings façade or carry salts/pollutants into the building. The resolution for penetrating damp will be to establish the cause(s) and carry out the necessary repair/cosmetic work.

Condensation Damp
Condensation damp is caused by moist air coming into contact with a colder surface such as a window, wall or mirror. The air can't hold the moisture, so it condenses into water droplets.

Common causes of condensation damp include:
- lack of ventilation made worse by activities such as cooking and showering.

- Inadequate heating I.E colder surface areas leading to the condesation

- Poor Insulation causing cold spots in a property.

Condensation damp can be solved by increasing ventilation. This could include installation of extractor fans, PIV units (positive input ventilation), insulation or opening up blocked fireplaces on older properties which were originally designed to breathe via numerous chimney routes.
Plumbing Related Damp
Plumbing related damp is either caused by leaking waste pipes or water inlet pipes and typically causes damp along ceilings or down walls.
The resolution is to identify the cause(s) of the leak, repair the pipework, fix any structural/cosmetic damage.
